<strong>Muhammad Hussam Uddin Al-Khateeb</strong><br />
<strong>Language: English | Format: PDF | Pages: 211 | Size: 2 MB</strong></h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
A Christian clergyman called Father
Nicholas has been living next to me for a good few years now. When he
first moved in I hastened to welcome him. I offered the initial helping
hand necessary for him to sort things out and settle in nicely in his
new flat. It was only a small gesture of friendship and camaraderie,
perfectly in line with my commitment to my Islamic teachings, which make
 it imperative for all Muslims to maintain good neighbourly relations,
regardless of the race, colour or creed of their neighbours. After all,
it was the Godsend Prophet (pbuh) himself who said: “Gabriel kept urging
 me to be kind to my neighbours till I thought he would give them the
right of inheritance.”<span style="color: red;">(1)</span></h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
Months and years passed and Father
Nicholas and I somehow seemed to have developed a kind of intimacy
founded on a venerable ‘Quranic verse: “Indeed… you will find that the
closest and most loving to the believers (Muslims) are those who say ‘We
 are Christians.'”<span style="color: red;">(2)</span> We exchanged
visits regularly on special Muslim and Christian feasts and festivities,
 often spending the time talking about our two religions. We stayed
clear of the usual chatter and flattering, small talk. He told me about
his faith as he understood and practiced it and I told him about mine,
often to the mutual benefit of both.</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
Things went on like this till 12/ 09/
2006, I still remember the exact date, when the newly appointed Pope of
the Vatican, Benedictus XVI, made his well known remarks which offended
Muslims and insulted the Islamic Prophet. The new Pontiff quoted at
length some moronic medieval texts, written at a time when religious
wars were still raging between Christians and Muslims, partly due to
such claims that “Islam was spread by the sword” and that “the Prophet
of Islam brought nothing new but the sword.” The same hackneyed charges
really, propagated by the same people and the same mentality that
engendered crusades and crusaders in the first place. It is the same
frame of mind still intent on raking old fires and fomenting further
religious wars and culture clashes.<span style="color: red;">(3)</span></h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
The media hype began in earnest immediately after, reporting the Pope’s provocative remarks and the various reactions to them.</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
I bumped into my neighbour Father
Nicholas a couple of days later, on 20/09/2006 to be specific, right at
the front door of our building. As usual, we said hello, shook hands,
inquired about each other’s health and how things are going. Only this
time he added:</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
– When does your month of fasting begin this year?<br />
– In three or four days, I said, depending on when exactly the crescent moon of Ramadan becomes visible.<br />
– I’ll come and visit you on the first day of Ramadan to congratulate you on the start of your fasting feast.<br />
– Most welcome.<br />
– What do you usually do in a typical Ramadan evening, he asked? I wouldn’t like to come at an inconvenient time.<br />
– Well, I usually wait for the Mu’azen to call for the Maghreb prayer
thereby announcing the end of fasting for that day. I have a couple of
dates or a drink of water, pray the Maghreb then have my main meal.
After that I pray the Isha and the Taraweh in the mosque, where I
perform all my prayers. At around nine p.m., winter timing, I stay in to
 have some rest.<br />
– We’ll meet at nine, then, the first day of Ramadan, if that’s ok with you, he said.<br />
– God willing.<br />
– Oh, and I’ll bring a friend along, if you don’t mind, he added. You don’t know him. He’d like to meet you and speak with you.<br />
– Most welcome, you and your friend. We said goodbye to one another. I
pushed on to where I was heading and he climbed up the steps to his
flat.<span id="more-13032"></span></h4>

<span style="color: red;">(3)</span> The English Zionist orientalist
Bernard Lewis says: “To the European observer in particular, one
noteworthy aspect of the Islamic society was its tolerance compared to
other societies at the time. For, contrary to their western
contemporaries, rarely did the medieval Muslim rulers feel the need to
impose their faith by force on all their subjects.” (B. Lewis, The Arabs
 in History, Oxford: OUP, 2001, translated into Arabic by N. Fares,
Beirut: Dar Al-‘Ilm Lil-Malayeen, 1945, p. 45.)</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
Similarly, in his Islam at a Crossroad,
the orientalist De Lacy O’Leary says: “History makes it clear… that the
legend of fanatical Muslims sweeping through the world and forcing Islam
 at the point of the sword upon conquered races is one of the most
fantastically absurd myths that historians have ever repeated.” (London:
 1923, p. 8.)</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
In her History of the Islamic
Legislature, the Polish orientalist Bourghinia Jianah also says: “Both
history and commonsense give lie to the claim that Islam spread by the
sword.” (B. Jiannah, The History of Islamic Legislature, translated into
 Arabic as Tareekh Al-Tashree’ Al-Islami, Beirut: Dar Al-Afa’ak
Al-Jadeedah, 1980, p. 17.)</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
From a different perspective, the
orientalist Thomas Carlyle points rather to Christians using the sword
to spread Christianity. In his Heroes, Hero-Worship and the Heroic in
History, Carlyle says: “Charlemagne’s conversion of the Saxons was not
by preaching.” (Gutenberg Project Online, 17. 04. 2008, p. 296.)</h4>

</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
This is a book presented by Rasoulallah Website (<a href="http://www.rasoulallah.net/" rel="nofollow">http://www.rasoulallah.net</a>)
 shows aspects of our Prophet’s life. It contains topics as: his
manners, his exemplary justice, his simple life, his love for the poor,
his forgiveness shown to the non-Muslims. It includes other important
topics as: how did he achieve reform, can he be taken as a model for
Muslims to follow and how did he instill brotherhood among Muslims?</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
{By the grace of Allah, you are gentle
towards the people; if you had been stern and ill-tempered, they would
have dispersed from round about you} (translation of Qur’an 3:159)</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
About himself the prophet (peace be upon
him) said: “Allah has sent me as an apostle so that I may demonstrate
perfection of character, refinement of manners and loftiness of
deportment.” (Malik, Mawatta; Ahmed, Musnad; Mishkat)</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
By nature he was gentle and kind hearted,
 always inclined to be gracious and to overlook the faults of others.
Politeness and courtesy, compassion and tenderness, simplicity and
humility, sympathy and sincerity were some of the keynotes of his
character. In the cause of right and justice he could be resolute and
severe but more often than not, his severity was tempered with
generosity. He had charming manners which won him the affection of his
followers and secured their devotion. Though virtual king of Arabia and
an apostle of Allah, he never assumed an air of superiority. Not that he
 had to conceal any such vein by practice and artifice: with fear of
Allah, sincere humility was ingrained in his heart. He used to say, “I
am a Prophet of Allah but I do not know what will be my end.” (Bukhari,
Sahih Bukhari, Chapter “Al-Janaiz”)</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
In one of his sermons calculated to
instill the fear of Allah and the day of reckoning in the hearts of men,
 he said : “O people of Quraish be prepared for the hereafter, I cannot
save you from the punishment of Allah; O Bani Abd Manaf, I cannot save
you from Allah; O Abbas, son of Abdul Mutalib, I cannot protect you
either; O Fatima, daughter of Muhammad, even you I cannot save.”
(Sahahin)</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
He used to pray : “O Allah! I am but a
man. If I hurt any one in any manner, then forgive me and do not punish
me.” (Ahmed, Musnad, Vol. 6 pg. 103)</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
He always received people with courtesy and showed respect to older people and stated:</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
“To honor an old man is to show respect to Allah.”</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
He would not deny courtesy even to wicked
 persons. It is stated that a person came to his house and asked
permission for admission. The prophet (peace be upon him) remarked that
he was not a good person but might be admitted. When he came in and
while he remained in the house, he was shown full courtesy. When he left
 Aiysha (ra) said : “You did not think well of this man, but you treated
 him so well.” . The prophet (peace be upon him) replied : “He is a bad
person in the sight of Allah who does not behave courteously and people
shun his company bacause of his bad manners.” (Bukhari, Sahih Bukhari).</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
He was always the first to greet another
and would not withdraw his hand from a handshake till the other man
withdrew his. If one wanted to say something in his ears, he would not
turn away till one had finished (Abu Dawud, Tirmizi). He did not like
people to get up for him and used to say : “Let him who likes people to
stand up in his honour, he should seek a place in hell.” (Abu Dawud,
Kitabul Adab, Muhammadi Press, Delhi).</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
He would himself, however, stand up when
any dignitary came to him. He had stood up to receive the wet nurse who
had reared him in infancy and had spread his own sheet for her. His
foster brother was given similar treatment. He avoided sitting at a
prominent place in a gathering, so much so that people coming in had
difficulty in spotting him and had to ask which was the Prophet (peace
be upon him). Quite frequently uncouth bedouins accosted him in their
own gruff and impolite manner but he never took offence. (Abu Dawud
Kitabul Atama).<span id="more-12508"></span></h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
He used to visit the poorest of ailing
persons and exhorted all muslims to do likewise (Bukhari, Sahih Bukhari,
 Chapter “Attendance on ailing persons”). He would sit with the humblest
 of persons saying that righteousness alone was the criterion of one’s
superiority over another. He invariably invited people be they slaves,
servants or the poorest believers, to partake with him of his scanty
meals (Tirmizi, Sunan Tirmizi).</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
Whenever he visited a person he would
first greet him and then take his permission to enter the house. He
advised the people to follow this etiquette and not to get annoyed if
anyone declined to give permission, for it was quite likely the person
concerned was busy otherwise and did not mean any disrespect (Ibid).</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
There was no type of household work too
low or too undignified for him. Aiysha (ra) has stated, “He always
joined in household work and would at times mend his clothes, repair his
 shoes and sweep the floor. He would milk, tether, and feed his animals
and do the household shopping.” (Qazi Iyaz: Shifa; Bukhari, Sahih
Bukhari, Chapter: Kitabul Adab)</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
He would not hesitate to do the menial
work of others, particularly of orphans and widows (Nasi, Darmi). Once
when there was no male member in the house of the companion Kabab Bin
Arat who had gone to the battlefield, he used to go to his house daily
and milk his cattle for the inhabitants (Ibn Saad Vol. 6, p 213).</h4>

<span style="color: maroon;">With his Family</span></h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
The observer of the private life of
Muhammad the Messenger, will admire the man who came from a harsh desert
 environment prevailed by ignorance and anarchism, and wonder “how could
 he reach the highest levels of incomparable family success?” Muhammad
(PBUH) was an inexhaustible stream of love, warmth, tenderness,
sensitivity and emotions.</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
He was the perfect lover to his family
and wives. He was playing and joking with them. He was giving them love
and tenderness; for example, he was expressing gently his love to his
wife Aisha by intending to drink from the same cup she drank from
putting his lips on the place from which she drank sending a secret
message warming up her heart and feelings. This was just one example
from many in his life.</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
He even represented the loyal lover in a
happy family. He did not forget his dead wife khadeeja, but he kept
remembering her favors by having good relations with her relatives. He
was very angry when khadeeja was disparged in his presence. Abu najeeh
narrated in the story of Hala –khadiga’s sister- when Hala asked for
permission to meet the Messenger, Aisha said” Allah gave you the young
wife instead of the old one-she means khadiga-”. So the Messenger became
 very angry till she said” I swear I wont mention her after now except
in a good way”.</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
In spite of Muhammad’s heavy burdens as
being the chief of the Islamic state, the commander of the army and the
moral and intellectual guidance to his followers, he did not forget his
duties towards his family by helping them in the housework, showing that
 woman has a great value in Islam.</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
Al Aswad reported that he asked Aisha
(the Prophet’s wife) about what the Messenger had been doing in his
house. She replied that he was serving his family and when the time came
 to pray he left to prayer.(Narrated by Al Bukhari)</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: maroon;">Muhammad the Messenger, the Man of Right and Justice</span></h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
He loved right and justice and ruled
according to this. He did not fear to be blamed because of applying
justice. He did not flatter any one for his rank, money or his pedigree,
 in the contrary, he supported the weak and stand against the strong in
giving them their rights back.</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
He was so fair and stick to the right to
the extend that he did not flatter even the dearest people to him. It
happened that an eminent woman from the Family of Mekhzoum- (a great
family in Makkah at that time )- stole, so she deserved a punishment for
 her crime. Her family went to one of the Prophet’s followers<br />
– he was the dearest to him- to ask the Prophet for forgiveness.</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
When Muhammad (PBUH) listened to the
request of his dearest friend to forgive this woman, he became very
angry because of breaking and infracting the holiness of justice after
he had become a Muslim.</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
Aisha said that Quraish was very
concerned about the woman of the family of Makhzoum who had stolen so
they thought that no one dare to speak with the Messenger in this case
except Osama bin Zeid, the dearest to the Messenger. Osama talked to the
 Messenger, who had replied: “do you mediate in one of Allah’s laws?
Then he stood and gave a speech telling the people that the nations
living before them were destroyed because they didn’t punish the eminent
 but did only punish the weak when committing any crime. And he swore if
 his daughter Fatima stole, he would punish her.<span id="more-16630"></span></h4>

<h4 style="text-align: center;">
Al-Sira al Nabawiyya by Imam IBN KATHIR
is a full examination, in chronological order of the background, life
and the mission of the Prophet Muhammad (saw). Drawn from the earliest
and most reliable Arabic sources, it offers, in this close English

circumstances and personalities most important in the foundation of
Islam.</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
IBN KATHIR’s work offers a fine example
of the Islamic scholarship; the quotations and anecdotes that constitute
 its core are evaluated in terms of trustworthiness of the sources.
Variant wordings that are related through differing lines of
transmission are noted, and Ibn Kathir gives both his own assessments
and those of the earliest Islamic authorities concerning the likely
authenticity of these records. The comments and conversations, derived
from ancient texts, that are quoted in this work constitute the basis of
 our knowledge of Islam during the life time Muhammad (saw)</h4>

<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
Muhammad (S) is the Messenger of Allah,
and those who are with him, are severe against the disbelievers, and
merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and falling down
prostrate (in prayer), seeking bounty from Allah and (His) Good
Pleasure. The mark of them (i.e. of their Faith) is on their faces (fore
 heads) from the traces of prostration (during prayers). This is their
description in the Taurah (Torah). But their description in the Injeel
(Gospel) is like a (sown) seed which sends forth its shoot, then makes
it strong, and becomes thick and it stands straight on its stem,
delighting the sowers, that He may enrage the disbelievers with them.
Allah has promised those among them who believe and do righteous good
deeds, forgiveness and a mighty reward (Paradise). (Al-Fath: 29)</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
The Prophet Muhammad (S) said: “The
example of guidance and knowledge with which Allah has sent me is like
abundant rain falling on the earth. Some of which was fertile soil that
absorbed rain-water and brought forth vegetation and grass in abundance.
 (And) another portion of it was hard and held the rain-water and Allah
benefited the people with it and they utilized it for drinking (making
their animals drink from it) and to irrigate the land for cultivation.
(And) a portion of it was barren which could neither hold the water nor
bring forth vegetation (then that land gave no benefits). The first is
the example of the person who comprehends Allah’s Religion (Islam) and
gets benefit (from the knowledge) which Allah (Azawajal) has revealed
through me (the Prophet) and learns and then teaches it to others. The
(last example is that of a) person who does not care for it and does not
 take Allah’s Guidance revealed through me (he is like that barren
land).” (Al-Mukarramah)<span id="more-17268"></span></h4>

I desired to write this as a completion for the treatises which are in
circulation amongst the people today – about the different fields –
especially of worship such as Prayer and Fasting, etc. – which have made
 easier that which is difficult as regards religious rulings and being
guided thereby, as it maybe difficult these days for some to read,
research and extract these rulings from their places within the source
books – either because of the ignorance of the Muslims or laziness or
other worldly problems. I sincerely advise all the Muslims to read and
research until they come to know and understand their true Deen – and I
wished to write this in order to complete the series of the types of
worship, especially since no one has particularized this topic in a
treatise – except what occurs within the books of reference as we have
explained – but I have not found this in the form of a treatise.</h4>

Almost everyone on the earth today is
discussing Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. People want to know,
“Who was he exactly?” “What did he teach?” “Why was he loved so much by
some and hated so much by others?” “Did he live up to his claims?” “Was
he a holy man? “Was he a prophet of God?” “What is the truth about this
man – Muhammad?”</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
How can we discover the truth and be totally honest in our judgment?<br />
We will begin with the very simple historical evidences, facts as
narrated by thousands of people, many of whom knew him personally. The
following is based on books, manuscripts, texts and actual eyewitness
accounts, too numerous list herein, yet all have been preserved in
original form throughout the centuries by both Muslims and non-Muslims.</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
Muhammad ibn (son of) Abdullah ibn (son
of) Abdul Mutalib, was born in the year 570 C.E. (Christian Era) in
Makkah, Felix Arabia (today: Saudi Arabia) and he died in 633 C.E. in
Yathrib (today: Madinah, Saudi Arabia).</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
His names: When he was born, his
grandfather, Abdul Mutalib, gave him the name Muhammad. And it means
“praised one” or “praising one.” He was later called “As-Saddiq” (the
Truthful) by all of those who knew of his truthful and honest nature. He
 always said only the truth. He was also called “Al – Alamin” (the
Trustworthy) due to his integrity and always upholding any trust given
to him. When the tribes were battling against each other, both sides
would entrust him with their possessions during the fighting, even if it
 might be against some of his own tribesmen, because they knew he would
always uphold any trust given to him. All of his names indicated the
very nature of a man who was praised for his honesty, integrity and
trustworthiness. He was also well known for advocating the
reconciliation of kinship and relationships. He ordered his followers to
 always honor the “ties of the wombs” (siblings and other close
relatives).</h4>

This fits right in with the prophecy
mentioned in the Bible in the Book of John in chapters 14 and 16, as the
 coming of a prophet known as the “Spirit of Truth” or “Comforter” or
“Advocate.</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
Born as a descendent of Abraham, peace be
 upon him, through his first born son, Ishmail (Ismail in Arabic), peace
 be upon him, to the noble tribe of the Quraish who were the leaders of
Makkah in those days. Muhammad’s blood line traces directly back to
Abraham, peace be upon him.</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
This could certainly point to fulfillment
 of Old Testament (Torah) prophecies in Deuteronomy (chapter 18:15) of a
 prophet, like unto Moses from “their brethren.”</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
He insisted on keeping the Commandments
of Almighty God, just as his great grandfathers and prophets of old had
done in the past (peace be upon them). Here is a statement from
Muhammad, peace be upon him, while the Quran was being revealed to him
by the angel Gabriel;</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
“Come, I will recite what your Lord has
prohibited you from: Join not anything in worship with Him; be good and
dutiful to your PARENTS; do not kill your children because of poverty –
(Allah) provide sustenance for you and for them; do not come near to
Al-Fawahish (shameful sins, illegal sexual intercourse, etc.) whether
committed openly or secretly, and kill not anyone whom Allah has
forbidden, except for a just cause. This He has commanded you that you
may understand.” [Holy Quran 6:151]</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
Muhammad, peace be upon him, lived in
total commitment to the belief that God (Allah in Arabic) was truly One
God, and as such, He was to be worshipped alone, without any other
“gods” beside Him. This is the very first commandment in the Old
Testament (Exodus chapter 20 and Deuteronomy, chapter 5) and in the New
Testament as well (Mark, chapter 12, verse 29).</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
Muhammad, peace be upon him, ordered his
followers to obey Allah Almighty, following the true Commandments as
were revealed to him by the angel Gabriel from Almighty Allah. Read
below, one of many similar statements from the Quran:</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
Surely, Allah Commands absolute justice
and steadfast commitment to performing your duties to Almighty Allah, in
 total sincerity and giving help to relatives: and He forbids evil, and
disobedience and all that is prohibited by Allah (such as; illegal
sexual acts, disobedience of PARENTS, polytheism, to tell lies, to give
false witness, to kill a life without right, etc.), and (He Forbids) any
 evil (i.e. all that is prohibited by God’s Law, such as: polytheism of
every kind, disbelief and every kind of evil deeds, etc.), and all kinds
 of oppression, He admonishes you, that you may take heed. [Holy Quran
16:90]</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
Muhammad, peace be upon him, never fell
into the common practice of his tribesmen to worship statues, idols or
man-made “gods.” He forbid his followers to ever engage in worship
outside of the One True God (Allah) of Adam, Abraham, Moses and all the
prophets, peace be upon them all.</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
And the people of the Scripture Jews and
Christians did not differed amongst themselves until after there came to
 them clear evidence. And they were commanded only to worship Allah, and
 worship none but Him Alone (no gods beside God), and perform prayers
and give charity: and that is the right religion. [Holy Quran 98:4-5]</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
He despised false worship to any man-made
 gods or images or anything in creation as a god. He hated all of the
complexities and degradation to which it leads.</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
This is in direct obedience to the second commandment in the above mentioned verses, “Thou shalt not make any graven images.”</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
Muhammad, peace be upon him, ordered men
to “provide and protect” women, whether it was their own mother, sister,
 wife or daughter or even those of others, whether they were Muslims or
not.</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
“Men are the protectors and maintainers
of women, because Allah has made one of them to excel the other, and
because they spend (to support the women) from their means. Therefore
the righteous women are devoutly obedient (to Allah and to their
husbands), and guard in the husband’s absence what Allah orders them to
guard (e.g. their chastity, their husband’s property, etc.). As to those
 women on whose part you see ill-conduct, admonish them, refuse to share
 their beds, startle them (set forth a clear example or parable for
them, to make clear the point of what is going on before divorcing them)
 so if they return to proper obedience (to Allah and their husbands), do
 not annoy them any further. Surely, Allah is Ever Most High, Most
Great.” [Holy Quran 4:34]</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
Muhammad, peace be upon him, never drank
alcohol or strong drink, even though it was a very normal thing for
people of his time and place.</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
“O you believers! Intoxicating drinks,
gambling, fortune telling, etc. is the hated work of the devil. So stay
away from all of that horrible stuff, that you will be successful.”<br />
“The devil only wants to create hatred between you with intoxicants
(alcoholic drinks, etc.) and gambling and to keep you from the
remembrance of Allah and from your proper worship (prayers). So, why
won’t you away from them?” [Holy Quran 5:90-91]</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
The Arabs, like most other cultures at
his time, drank alcohol without concern for their health or for their
altered behavior while intoxicated. Many of them were alcoholics.</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
In today’s world there is little need to
present long discussions on the evil and dangers of drinking alcohol.
Besides causing diseases and ruining a person’s health, alcohol is often
 attributed to be the cause of many traffic accidents resulting in
property damage, injuries and deaths. The first order was for the
followers of Muhammad, peace be upon him, to leave off drinking while
engaged in worship, then came stronger orders to leave drinking all
together. Thus, offering a time for the early Muslims to break off from
their addiction to strong drink.<span id="more-166"></span></h4>

<h4>

<h4 style="text-align: center;">
In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
God says in His Noble Book:</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: green;">وَٱلَّذِينَ يُؤۡذُونَ رَسُولَ ٱللَّهِ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ۬</span></h4>

<span style="color: red;">But those who hurt Allâh’s Messenger (Muhammad PBUH) will have a painful torment. <span style="color: navy;">[The Noble Qur’an Al-Tawbah 09:61]</span></span></h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<h4>
<span style="color: maroon;"><strong>You should know this man</strong></span></h4>
</div>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
You may be an atheist or an
agnostic; or you may belong to any of the religious denominations that
exist in the world today. You may be a Communist or a believer in
democracy and freedom.</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
No matter who you are, and no
matter what your ideological and political beliefs, personal and social
habits happen to be. You must still know this man.</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
Encyclopedia Britannica
confirms: “…a mass of detail in the early sources shows that he was an
honest and upright man who had gained the respect and loyalty of others
who were likewise honest and upright men.”(Vol: 12)</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
Bernard Shaw said about him:
“He must be called the Savior of Humanity. I believe that if a man like
him were to assume the dictatorship of the modern world, he would
succeed in solving its problems in a way that would bring it much-needed
 peace and happiness”. (<em>The Genuine Islam</em>, Singapore, Vol. 1, No. 8, 1936)</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
He was by far the most
remarkable man that ever set foot on this earth. He preached a religion,
 founded a State, built a nation, laid down a moral code, initiated
numerous social and political reforms, established a powerful and
dynamic society to practice and represent his teachings and completely
revolutionized the worlds of human thought and behavior for all times to
 come. His name is Muhammad.</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
Born in Arabia in the year 570
CE, he started his mission of preaching the religion of Truth, Islam
(submission to One God) at the age of forty and departed from this world
 when he was sixty-three.</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
During this short period of 23
years of his prophethood, he changed the entire Arabian peninsula from
paganism and idolatry to the worship of One God; from tribal quarrels
and wars to national solidarity and cohesion; from drunkenness and
wickedness to sobriety and piety; from lawlessness and anarchy to
disciplined living; from utter bankruptcy to the highest standards of
moral excellence. Human history has never known such a complete
transformation of people or a place before or since – and imagine all
these unbelievable wonders took place <em>in just over two decades</em>.</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
La Martine, the renowned historian, speaking on <em>The Essentials or Human Greatness</em>,
 said: “If greatness of purpose, smallness of means and astounding
results are the three criteria of human genius, who could dare to
compare any great man in modern history with Muhammad? The most famous
men created arms, laws and empires only. They founded, if anything at
all, no more than material powers which often crumbled away before their
 eyes. This man moved not only armies, legislations, empires, peoples
and dynasties, but millions of men in one-third of the (<span style="text-decoration: underline;">then)</span>
 inhabited world; and more than that, he moved the altars, the gods, the
 religions, the ideas, the beliefs and souls … his forbearance in
victory, his ambition, which was entirely devoted to one idea and in no
manner striving for an empire; his endless prayers, his mystic
conversations with God, his death and his triumph after death — all
these attest not to an impostor, but to a firm conviction which gave him
 the power to restore a dogma. This dogma was twofold, the unity of God
and the immateriality of God; the former telling what God is, and the
latter telling what God is not; the one overthrowing false gods with the
 sword, the other starting an idea with the words.</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
Philosopher, orator, apostle,
legislator, warrior, conqueror of ideas, restorer of rational dogmas, of
 a cult without images, the founder of twenty terrestrial empires and of
 one spiritual empire that is Muhammad. As regards all the standards by
which human greatness may be measured, we may well ask, is there any man
 greater than he?” (La Martine, <em>Historic de la Turquie</em>, Paris, 1854, Vol. II, pp. 276-277)</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
The world has had its share of
great personalities. However, these were one-sided figures who
distinguished themselves in one or two fields, such as religious thought
 or military leadership. The lives and teachings of these great
personalities of the world are shrouded in the mist of time. There is so
 much speculation about the time and place of their birth, the mode and
style of their life, the nature and detail of their teachings and the
degree and measure of their success or failure that it is impossible for
 humanity to reconstruct accurately the lives and teachings of these
men.</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
Not so this man. Muhammad, <em>, </em>accomplished
 so much in such diverse fields of human thought and behavior in the
fullest blaze of human history. Every detail of his private life and
public utterances has been accurately documented and faithfully
preserved to our day. The authenticity of the records so preserved is
vouched for not only by the faithful followers, but also by his
prejudiced critics.</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
Muhammad, <em>, </em>was a
religious teacher, a social reformer, a moral guide, an administrative
colossus, a faithful friend, a wonderful companion, a devoted husband, a
 loving father – all in one. No other man in history ever excelled or
equaled him in any of these different aspects of life – but it was only
for the selfless personality of Muhammad, <em>, </em>to achieve such incredible perfection.</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
Mahatma Gandhi, speaking on the character of Muhammad, , says in <em>Young India</em>;</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
“I wanted to know the best of
one who holds today undisputed sway over the hearts of millions of
mankind… I became more than convinced that it was not the sword that won
 a place for Islam in those days in the scheme of life. It was the rigid
 simplicity, the utter self-effacement of the Prophet, the scrupulous
regard for his pledges, his intense devotion to his friends and
followers, his intrepidity, his fearlessness, his absolute trust in God
and in his own mission. These and not the sword carried everything
before them and surmounted every obstacle.</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
When I closed the 2nd volume (of the Prophet’s biography), I was sorry there was not more for me to read of the great life”.</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
Thomas Carlyle, in his <em>Heroes and Hero-Worship</em>,
 was simply amazed as to: “How one man single handedly, could weld
warring tribes and wandering Bedouins into a most powerful and civilized
 nation.”</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
Diwan Chand Sharma wrote:
“Muhammad was the soul of kindness, and his influence was felt and never
 forgotten by those around him.” (D. C. Sharma, <em>‘The Prophets of the East’</em>, Calcutta, 1935, pp. 12).</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
Speaking on the aspect of equality before God in Islam, the famous poetess of India, Sarojini Naidu says:</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
“It was the first religion that
 preached and practiced democracy; for, in the mosque, when the call for
 prayer is sounded and worshippers are gathered together, the democracy
of Islam is embodied five times a day when the peasant and king kneel
side by side and proclaim: God Alone is Great.</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
I have been struck over again by this indivisible unity of Islam that makes man instinctively a brother.” (S. Naidu, <em>Ideals of Islam</em>, vide Speeches & Writings, Madras, 1918, P. 169).</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
The world has not hesitated to
raise to divinity, individuals whose lives and missions have been lost
in legend. Historically, none of these legends achieved even a fraction
of what Muhammad, <em>, </em>accomplished. And all his striving was for
the sole purpose of uniting humanity for the worship of One God on the
codes of moral excellence. Muhammad, , or his followers never at any
time claimed that he was a Son of God or God-incarnate – but he always
was and is even today considered as only a Messenger chosen by God.</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
Michael H. Hart in his recently
 published book on ratings of men who contributed towards the benefit
and upliftment of man writes: “My choice of Muhammad to lead the list of
 the world’s most influential persons may surprise some readers and may
be questioned by others, but he was the only man in history who was
supremely successful on both the religious and secular levels”. (M.H.
Hart, <em>‘The 100: A ranking of the most influential persons in History’</em>, New York, 1978 pp.33).</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
Today after a lapse of fourteen
 centuries, the life and teachings of Muhammad, , have survived without
the slightest loss, alteration or interpolation. They offer the same
undying hope for treating humankind’s many ills, which they did when he
was alive. This is not a claim of the followers of Muhammad, , but also
the inescapable conclusion forced upon by a critical and unbiased
history.</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
The least you could know as a
thinking and concerned human being is to stop for a moment and ask
yourself: Could these statements sounding so extraordinary and
revolutionary be really true? And supposing they really are true and you
 did not know this man Muhammad, , or hear about him, isn’t it time you
respond to this tremendous challenge and put in some effort to know him?</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
It will cost you nothing but it may prove to be the beginning of a completely new era in your life.</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4 dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
We invite you to make a discovery of this wonderful man, Muhammad, , the like of whom never walked on the face of this earth.<span id="more-16955"></span></h4>
