Superior way of asking Allah’s forgiveness:

Shaddad Bin Aws (radhyAllahu ‘anhu) narrated that the Prophet (sallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said, “The most superior way of asking for forgiveness from Allah is: ‘Allah umma Anta Rabbi la ilaha illa Anta. Anta Khalaqtani wa ana abduka. Wa ana ‘ala ahdika wa wa’dika mastata’tu. A’udhu bika min sharri ma sana’tu, Abu’u laka Bini’matika ‘alaiya. Wa Abu Laka bidhanbi faghfirli innahu la yaghfiru adhdhunuba illa anta.’” (O Allah, You are my Rabb. There is no god but You. You created me and I am Your servant, and I uphold Your covenant and (my) promise to You as much as I am able. I seek refuge in You from the evil I have done. I acknowledge before You Your favor upon me, and I acknowledge my sin; so forgive me. Indeed, there is none who can forgive sins except You.”) The Prophet (sallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) added. “If somebody recites it during the day with firm faith in it, and dies on the same day before the evening, he will be from the people of Paradise. And if somebody recites it at night with firm faith in it, and dies before the morning, he will be from the people of Paradise.” (Reported by Bukhari, Vol. 8, Hadeeth 318)

Trust in Allah:

‘Imran Bin Husain (radhyAllahu ‘anhu) narrated that verily Allah’s Messenger (sallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said, “Seventy thousand people of my followers will enter Paradise without rendering account.” They (the companions of the Prophet (sallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said: “Who would be those, Messenger of Allah?” He (sallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said: “They would be those who neither practice charm, nor take omens, nor do they cauterize, but they repose their trust in their Rabb.” (Reported by Muslim, Vol.1, Hadeeth 423)

Adhering to Prophet’s Sunnah:

Ghudhayf Bin al Harith al Thumali (radhyAllahu ‘anhu) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (sallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said, “Never did a people make an innovation (in religion) there was withdrawn from them the equal measure of Sunnah. Adhering to Sunnah is better than making innovations.” (Reported by Tirmidhi, Hadeeth 187 and Ahmad)

Reviving the Prophet’s Sunnah:

‘Abdullah (radhyAllahu ‘anhu) narrated on the authority of his father, “I heard Allah’s Messenger (sallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) saying, “He who revived a Sunnah of mine that was extinct after me, would (receive) a reward like the reward of one of the people who acted upon it without any diminution in their rewards. And, he who introduced an innovation that Allah and His Messenger had not sanctioned, would incur (a sin) like the sin of one of the people who acted upon it without any diminution in people’s sins.” (Reported by Ibn Majah Vol. 1, Hadeeth 210)

Jihad (Struggling or Fighting for the Cause of Allah):

Abu Hurairah (radhyAllahu ‘anhu) narrated that the Prophet (sallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said, “Whoever believes in Allah and His Messenger, offers prayers perfectly and fasts (the month of) Ramadan then it is incumbent upon Allah to admit him into Paradise, whether he emigrates for Allah’s cause or stays in the land where he was born.” They (the companions of the Prophet) said, “O Allah’s Messenger! Should we not inform the people of that?” He said, “There are one-hundred degrees in Paradise which Allah has prepared for those who carry on Jihad in His Cause. The distance between every two degrees is like the distance between the sky and the Earth. So if you ask Allah for anything, ask Him for the Firdaus, for it is the last part of Paradise and the highest part of Paradise, and at its top there is the Throne of Beneficent, and from it gush forth the rivers of Paradise.” (Reported by Bukhari Vol. 9, Hadeeth 519)

Bin Habashi (radhyAllahu ‘anhu) narrated that the Prophet (sallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) was asked which actions were most excellent and replied, “Faith which contains no doubt, jihad which contains no unfaithfulness regarding spoil, and a pilgrimage which is accepted.” He was asked which prayer was most excellent and replied, “Standing long in devotion.” (Reported by Tirmidhi, Hadeeth 3833 and Nasaa’i)

Da’wah (Calling people to Islam):

The Prophet (sallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said: “One who calls people towards guidance gains the same reward (from Allah) as those who follow him, without their reward being reduced.” (Reported by Muslim)

Sahl Bin Sad (radhyAllahu ‘anhu) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (sallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said, “…Be patient till you face them (i.e., the infidels) and invite them to Islam and inform them of what Allah has enjoined upon them. By Allah! If a single person embraces Islam at your hands (i.e., through you) that will be better for you than the red camels.” (Reported by Bukhari, Vol. 4, Hadeeth 192 and Vol. 5, Hadeeth 51)

Enjoining good and forbidding evil:

The Prophet (sallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said: “Whoever sees an evil should stop it with his hands; if he is unable to do so, then with his tongue; if he is unable to do that, then with his heart (by hating it), and this is the lowest level of belief.” (Reported by Bukhari)

Guiding people to virtue or righteousness:

The Prophet (sallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said: “Every good done to others is a charity, and the one who guides to a good deed gets the same reward as the one who performs the good deed.” (Reported by Bukhari and Muslim)

Abu Mas’ud Al-Ansari (radhyAllahu ‘anhu) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (sallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said, “…One who guides to something good has a reward similar to that of its doer.” (Reported by Muslim, Vol. 4, Hadeeth 4665)

Abu Hurairah (radhyAllahu ‘anhu) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (sallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said, “He who called people to righteousness, there would be reward (assured) for him like the rewards of those who adhered to it, without their rewards being diminished in any respect. And he who called (people) to error, he shall have to carry (the burden) of its sin, like those who committed it, without their sins being diminished in any respect.” (Reported by Muslim, Vol. 4, Hadeeth 6470)

Service and Kindness to parents:

‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud narrated: I asked Allah’s Messenger, “O Allah’s Messenger! What is the best deed?” He replied, “To offer the prayers at their early stated fixed times.” I asked, “What is next in goodness?” He replied, “To be good and dutiful to your parents.” I further asked, what is next in goodness?” He replied, “To participate in Jihad in Allah’s cause.” I did not ask Allah’s Messenger anymore and if I had asked him more, he would have told me more.” (Reported by Bukhari, Vol. 4, Hadeeth 41)

The Prophet (sallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said: “What a loss is for him! What a loss is for him! What a loss is for him!” Someone asked: “Who, O Allah’s Messenger?” He replied: “He whose parents reach old age, either one or both of them, and he does not use their presence (by being good to them, etc.) to cause him to enter Paradise.” (Reported by Muslim)

I asked the Prophet, “Which deed is dearest to Allah?” He replied, “To offer the Salat (prayers) at their early fixed times.” I asked, “What is the next (in goodness)?” He replied, “To be good and dutiful to your parents.” I again asked, “What is the next (in goodness)?” He replied, “To participate in Jihad (religious fighting) in Allah’s cause.” (Reported by Bukhari, Vol. 1, Hadeeth 505)

Abu Darda narrated that when a man came to him and said, “I have a wife whom my mother commands me to divorce.” He replied to him that he had heard Allah’s Messenger (sallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) say, “A parent is the best of the gates of Paradise; so if you wish, keep to the gate, or lose it.” (Reported by Tirmidhi, Hadeeth 4928 and Ibn Majah)
